Social Orientation and Relief Association (SOORA) is a non-governmental non-profit making charity organisation founded in 17th January 2018 in Walsall, West Midlands United Kingdom, and legally registered from the UK Charity Commission of England & Wales as a CIO Foundation on 16th September 2019. Soora is based in United Kingdom and operates east Africa countries including Somaliland and Somalia. Soora values the local existing potential resources from the communities in aims of strengthening community cohesion and self-reliance to achieve better life for all. Soora is dedicated to assist the disadvantaged people and needy communities throughout United Kingdom and Somaliland by engaging community development activities and also providing emergency relief assistance, resilience building, facilitating and promoting local community engagement and programs that emphasise self-reliance with dignity. Soora engages on a long-term commitment partnership approach with the beneficiaries in implementing the Projects. Soora has successfully managed to build significant relationship with government institutions, UN and International NGOs. Our vision targeted the diversity of people's different backgrounds and cultures to have similar life opportunities. The overall objectives that Soora is set up is to relieve the needs of the community who are in need by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, financial hardship or social and economic circumstances, in particular but not exclusively those who are from immigrant and refugee communities

 

Our mission

Soora is committed to build communities free from poverty, illiteracy and social exclusion, helping members of local communities meet their own needs through both short-term and long-term humanitarian and development initiatives through integrated programs i.e, Education and employability, Health & wellbeing, Water & sanitation, Orphan sponsorship program, Disability and children with special needs, prevention climate impact, and improving food security and livelihood.

Health and safety: before any action taken, we observe if the health and safety applied so everyone serve safely, independently and conveniently.

Soora Service Society: our highest achievement is to serve the society with dignity and justice by addressing their particular concerns to achieve better life for all and to show positive change.

Voluntarism: rather than to exist by Law, we are formed a private initiative resulting our voluntary actions of individual members who have chosen to pursue a shared interest of concern. We recognise retaining of voluntary values and principles and shall remain a primary force in the way of our working

Transparency and Accountability:  We are accountable for our actions and decisions, primarily to the community we serve, our funding agencies, the government, staff and volunteers, members, partner organisations, and the public at large. We are transparent in our dealings with the government, public, donors, partners, beneficiaries and other interested parties, except for personal matters and proprietary information.

 

Social cohesion in our community

Our collective responsibility to do more to solve society’s problems and improve the lives of those around us.   Volunteering is a powerful enabler of social cohesion as it connects people and brings communities together, stimulates friendships, unites people of different cultures, different believes and different backgrounds  of life, combats loneliness and isolation and builds positive communities.

 

Community engagement opportunities for the graduated students

Engaging in community service provides students with the opportunity to become active members of their community and has a lasting, positive impact on society at large. Community service or volunteerism enables students to acquire life skills and knowledge, as well as provide a service to those who need it most.

 

Personal health and well being

Our main purpose is spending time to help others and being generous with our time can help to boost self-confidence, Self-Reliance and establish new relationships, both of which contribute to personal wellbeing, particularly in relation to depression and mental health.

 

New skills and opportunities

Opportunities to expand your mind don’t have to be constrained to your work; they can come from social projects on your doorstep too. Whether it’s befriending the elderly or working with vulnerable children, volunteering can develop new skills and unlock new experiences.

 

We can make a positive difference to another person

When you volunteer, you give your energy and skills to help other people. No matter how or where you volunteer, whether at a food bank, hospital, youth centre, school, senior home, or animal shelter, you can make a difference in your community. All you have to do is complete a quick search online to find the right volunteer opportunity near you where you can give back to your community in a big way.
Volunteering can have a direct impact on individual lives. Our volunteers are matched with individual adults and young people with whom attended our activities regularly and build a bond.  It’s because of this personal and direct relationship that our volunteers can see is the very tangible difference their time and effort is making to one particular new life.

The aims and objectives of the organisation are

 

 

✎ To help the people the people in need such as homeless and all vulnerable people

✎ Improving quality of local environment and public spaces.

In order to achieve our aims and objectives the association may

 

 

➠ Do fundraising to support the community.

➠ Open community bank accounts

➠ Employ staff and volunteers

➠ Acquire and manage buildings or premises.

➠ Organize courses,events and create activities both the adult and young people.

➠ Work with other groups and communities to exchange information

➠ Do any thing that is lawful which will help it to fulfill its aims and objectives.

Membership terms and conditions

 

➲ Membership of the Association is open to any person over 18 or any organization living or located in United Kingdom who interesting in helping the association to achieve its aims, willing to abide by the rules of the Group and willing to pay any subscription agreed by the Management Committee.

➲ Membership shall be available to anyone without regard to gender, race, nationality, disability, sexual preference, religion or belief.

➲ Every individual member and each organization shall have one vote at General Meetings.

➲ The membership of any member may be terminated for good reason by the Management Committee but the member has a right to be heard by the Management Committee before a final decision is made.

➲ Each member organization shall appoint a representative to attend meetings of the Group and notify the Group’s Secretary of that person’s

Somaliland successful Projects

 

SOORA with its local NGO partner (SOYDAVO) had successfully implemented  humanitarian and development programs in Climate change, livelihoods, WASH, and food security with a focus on returnees, displaced people, and host communities in Somaliland. Three Shallow-wells implemented in Daad Maadheedh region particulerly in Beerato and Ceel Same districts.

The shallow will improve water sustainability by enhancing water supply through groundwater exploration and rainwater collection systems. similarly SOORA and SOYDAVO previously implemented emergency relief projects such as food distribution, water supply and health promotion activities in Khatumo and Balli Hersi Districts of Daad Madheedh region.
